CYCLING ON THE ETNA

A tour designed to bring out the contrasts of one of the most fascinating, hidden corner of Sicily. From Nicolosi to Adrano, visiting the Castle of Nelson, and Bronte, famous for its delicious pistachio. A stop to a wine cellar is a must if you want to discover local flavours. Last, but not least, the timeless Taormina and its spectacular well preserved theatre, unique scenario in the world.

 

Itinerary

1ST DAY: INDIVIDUAL ARRIVAL TO NICOLOSI (ETNA)

Individual arrival to Nicolosi, small village at the slope of the Mount Etna. Check in and overnight.

2ST DAY: NICOLOSI – ADRANO – BRONTE (44 KM)

Our ride starts after breakfast in direction of Adrano with its historical centre and Norman Castle. After you will see the “Ponte Saraceno” and the nature reserve of the “Fosse Laviche del Simeto”. Overnight in Bronte, beautiful little town, known everywhere for the Pistachio cultivation.

3ST DAY: BRONTE – MANIACE - RANDAZZO (40 KM)

Today you will ride in direction of Maniace, famous for the Castle of the Admiral Orace Nelson and worth a visit. You can also visit the former Norman Abbey of S. Maria di Maniace.

Finally you will arrive in Randazzo, small town at the slope of the Mount Etna with an interesting historical Medieval centre.

4ST DAY: RANDAZZO – VERZELLA(THE WINE ROUTE) - GOLE DELL’ALCANTARA - GIARDINI NAXOS (41 KM)

You will cross “Passo Pisciaro” where you will have the chance to taste one the DOC wine of the Etna at a local cellar. On the way you will see the Alkantara Gorges, spectacular canyon where the river flows. Arrival in Giardini Naxos, dinner and overnight.

5ST DAY: GIARDINI NAXOS - TAORMINA GIARDINI NAXOS (20 KM)

Do not miss a visit to the ancient Naxos, the first Greek colony in Sicily. Today's ride will take you to Taormina, famous for its art and culture, known as the Pearl of Sicily. Possibility to visit the ancient Greek-Roman temple with its breathtaking view over the sea and the Etna.

6ST DAY: GIARDINI NAXOS – ACIREALE - ACITREZZA (42 KM)

You will ride along the Riviera of Lemons and arrive to Acireale, rich in art and baroque architecture, and Acitrezza, small fisherman village evoked by the writer Giovanni Verga in its masterpeace “I Malavoglia”.

7ST DAY: DEPARTURE

After breakfast, departure and end of our services.
